Michael Fay was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and raised in neighboring North Andover. He is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where he received a B.F.A. studying film, animation, and computer graphics. He also attended Tufts University, where he received a B.S. in Computer Science.

After graduation, he founded (with Kevin Lane) Papercut Productions, a Boston-based film and video production company specializing in storyboards, effects, and animation. Their clients included Peace River Films (Liberty Science Center, WGBH/Nova), Total Learning Concepts (The Upjohn Co.), Wave Inc. (Merisel, Fleet Bank), and Image Engineering (Walt Disney, NBA Basketball, Six Flags Amusement Parks).

Since 1993, Michael has been working independently as a freelance artist for various clients and projects, focusing on illustration, animation, and web site icons.

Michael currently lives in Torrance, California.
